Ghost doll didnt make an ethereal

So I got an unique armor and wanted it to have more than 800 defense. I took 25 skulls and made a ghost doll and cubed it with the armor and the doll disapperead but nothing happened to the armor. Do they not make unique stuff ethereal or was this a bug or am I just stupid? I'm playing offline with 7.63.

I wasn't sure whether to post this in the bug forum but since it's all german there I made it here.

was the item indestructible before you tried to make it eth? if yes,thats normal...undestruct. item cannot be made eth...
so first up you item,then make eth,and then finally perm it.
if it wasnt undestructible before its probabely a bug ;)
