D2 Can't read CD error

I just wanted to post a solution to a problem I've been having in case anyone else experiences it.  I installed D2 so that I could play some CE, and whenever i tried to start it up with a patch bellow 1.12, I got an error saying to insert the expansion disc even tho it was in the drive.  I tried with virtual drives and my real exp. cd in a physical drive with no luck.  After the 1.12 patch, everything worked fine, but once you patch to CE it checks for CD again, which again caused the game to hang (tho with no error message this time).  After about 6 hours of trying every sugguestion I could find on google, I found a post refering to the same behavior in Doom 3 because it only reads the lowest drive letter (My cd drives range from J to L).  After setting the cd drive to D:/, CE started perfectly.  Such a frustrating problem.


TL:DR If your CE won't start, make sure your CD drive is labeled D:/

To change drive letters in Windows 7, right click on my computer, go to manage, and select Disk Management

yes i remember to have had such probvlems in different games before, its not only doom and diablo, its the doomed copy protection...
