Character has too many items (game dies)

Single play, what's going on here?
Game stops cold, alt+tab shows an error pop-up saying "character has too many items".
Hit OK, and the error (and the game) disappear.

If it's a particular item, what's the item?  How to tell?

Maybe the same problem like in multiplayer ? file too big >8 kb ?

when close the multi stash go to a site with no items.

I put no items on site 1 an go to this wenn i colse the stash.
