Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mod (I still had 7.66), now it says it's missing d2custombl.ce, and won't activate. Which is junk, since it's in the folder.

ScoobyD

look in the faq ans scroll a little bit down for english version.

this error comes when *.org and *.ce are there.

Deleted all the files, reinstalled, still did it. Did a total wipe and fresh install of Diablo II, then installed the mod, same problem. Whatever.

Vista?  Are you installing as Administrator?
XP?  I have no problems with XP... so I'm curious as heck what's going wrong!

Tessera

Vista can burn in the firepits of the place that created it. I use XP. Tried again, but now it's saying I'm missing chaosempire.ce instead of the previous message.

Any idea?

You can take a look into the Installation FAQ in my signature.

This happens if you have any files with both *.ce and *.org extensions. Please delete all *.ce files, use the Fixpacks and reinstall Chaos Empire.

<edit for grammar tweak, hats off to the DrowElf for the data>

Did all of that, still says I'm missing chaosempire.ce, despite the fact it's right next to the mod activator in the folder. Uninstalled the game and reinstalled it, then reinstalled the mod.

Same.
Damn.
Message.

ChaosEmpire

there will be some files in your d2 folder, extension CE or ORG
delete any of them, then try to reinstall the mod

I did that, tried to re-install it. Same message as before when I try to activate the mod.

This has my interest, because my brother has perpetual "failure to install".

He's on Vista Home, so I'm not sure your cure (when you finally get it all working) will cure his trouble.

Tessera

I can install it fine, but the problem comes when I try to activate the mod. Something isn't working right there.

Well, I've completely given up on this mod. I've tried everything under the sun, up to and including a hard drive complete wipe and reinstall of everything (including Windows XP), and it will not work. Sorry, guys, but I'll wait for the next one to come around.

Well, nothing more than a wild guess...

Anti-Virus software or security solutions?

The Mod activator renames a lot of files in the Diablo II directory. It renames original DII executables and DLLs to *.org and *.ce to .exe and .dll. Anti-virus software usually protects or at least scans every executable on the fly (and it is triggered by extension). While that scan takes place the file is locked and unavailable to other processes, including the activator itself. It could be a simple timeout in the activator.

You should try disabling any security programs while activating or deactivating. You should immediately re-enable them afterwards, though.
Look, I'm just a cow. OK?

I have had the same problem.  Installed everything. Did the activation icon ... missing this, missing that the .dll .ce are there but not being recognized and so I would drag them to the desktop and than drag them back. After awhile it took and able to play .... but what a freakin hassle.

Disabled it the last time I tried installing and running it.

Noticed that, it still to this day tells me I'm missing a file, when it's right there in front of me.

Did that, still didn't work.
