How do you feel about displaying your name?

Hi

cause of developing a central login script, we need to synchronize some data, which is common in more than one module in all databases.

So like your NickName, or eMail/Password, Birthday, and so on

One of those redundant database collected infos is First/Last name
The issue with replicating this is, that forum automatically displays the realname, there is no switch to change forum settings to display the nickname :(

So the question is, do you need a function, which allows you after first synchronize to change the name back into the nickname(this overwrites the first/last name, but we wont back synchronizue it..)

It is little bit confusing, but I think it is a good idea to display the realname (and add the nickname to your custom title)

I believe it helps to get a little bit more familiar/real here, on real life events you also wont talk to each other with nicknames...

So let me know, what you think

Btw, data in forum/userlist and so on, is only available to registered people, so no auto-adding into google and so on

Does this just apply to forum or will it display real names on realm as well

I prefer it display acct names since that is what we reconize each other with most people i play with I reconize by acct. names.....people i play with alot I know there first name...and call them by name..but there is way to many peeps that play to try to remember everyones first name;) plus I dont really like alot of my personal info like my email and birthday displayed,once they have your full name and birthday and how old you are they can get year ....now they have my full name birthday and year  and   country of  residence ,,1 google search they have my address..that leaves alot of room for hackers to have way to much info and could leave us open to email  viruses and idenity theft....I could be wrong but thats my opinion;)I would not mind if my first name was displayed since most peeps I play with already know it but i would not want my full name to show,,, as you said yourself  when server was hacked the more they know about you the more they try to hack you, the more info you give them the easier it is to get you,,,,  Deb

Same Opinion here like Widowmaker.
Shure, it is easy to find the name of a websiteowner.
But showing a full name with e mail adress, birthday etc. makes it easy for hackers, this is one of the first basic expieriences since we surf through the net with 28 k modem...
Most of my f list know my first name, and i dont have a problem when first! name will be shown up here.
I didnt think that its nessesary to explain this to poeple who have a lot of knowledge about the risks in an anonyme internet.

Yes, for increased security, I'd propose to NOT show the last name. It's nice that only registered people get to see my name, but any hacker could register here and make use of that.

Alternatively, you can tell everyone to change their first and last names (on their info) to their nicknames. That way, their nicknames will be displayed.
