pretty often , when i try to join/create game , d2 crashes with note ... that starts after 7.65 patch. is that only my problem?? or some1 else have same prob too?

No some other players have this problem, too.

First upgrade to 7.65sp1 if not done already.

The reason for this error is unknown at this time.

Thanks, DrowElf, for pointing to SP1 (I thought it was for Single Play, but this indicates it's Service Pack 1 for 7.65 for online use).

I have this same hang/crash problem, usually my machine is so hung I must power-cycle to get things back; and I found a work-around:
When changing characters (muling), exit from battle.net and log back in (so you must enter your password again), then choose the new character and go to the Join screen, where you can join the game you just left.

If this method works, use it even when changing games with the same character.

Other posters mentioned waiting 20 seconds at the idle screen, I tried this without success.  I didn't try waiting at the character selection screen for 20 seconds.  Exiting and re-entering battle.net always works for me.

Please try these methods and report back how things (don't) work for you.

I assume, the issue is depending on the really huge size of NewTristram map
Most Mpas are around a few 100kb
some of the new ~2mb
but new tristram is 18mb

so it needs to be loaded into memory, and unloaded...
and this could be the reason for this "timeouts"

I assume that Blizzard never has thaught about such big maps, and so, probably a unknown error (c00005) occures

sounds like u have no further plans about solving this issue in an satisfying manner


tho it works for me if i wait long enought inside of games (everytime i get lagging server no 1 i have to create a new game) or inside of chat channels (usually a miniute is sufficent) its still kind of annoying

surely it is annoying, and surely i m trying to find the reason
the bigger map COULD be the issue, for all the lags on all servers, cause of the increased login/out times (probably this does not happen, if char leaves game outside act1...)
