Topic: Long time away... install question:

Sorry, I did my due diligence to avoid creating a new thread on this.  Didn't find the info (per say) in the readme files in the download I was able to find and the Install FAQ doesn't let me post and hasn't been updated in several years.

Anyway, here are my install assumptions based on the readme in 773_upd.zip:

1) Install Diablo 2, Diablo 2 LOD, patch to version 1.10
2) Install the 7.65 full version (I can't find this)
3) Install the 7.73 update

Thanks in advance.  A great mod you've got, I installed D2:LOD 1.11c yesterday because of the recent D3 news, couldn't take it anymore, and hunted down my favorite D2:LOD mod.

4. change gateway zone from 1 to -1  ( I had to change it to -1 since I am in CA, US)  may or may not have to

Ok, so now I do have an issue.  I noticed the mouse wheel wasn't working in the game, looked it up and saw that this is resolved by running in compatibility mod, as admin, and a few other options checked.  When I do compatibility mode (or any other individual option other than run as administrator) I get a silent crash.  No errors in the event log even.

Kinda annoying.  I miss my mouse wheel.  The extreme solution would be to make an XP VM.  I sure don't want to go that route.

Edit:  I actually ended up going through the compatibility wizard... it comes back with "files have been modified, please reinstall Chaos Empire"... which I know is bogus because:
1) I didn't modify anything
2) The game runs fine (except for the loss of mouse scrolling) when I take it out of compatibility mode

Is there some other file I should be setting the compatibility mode on?

Edit 2:  Ok, I set it to windowed mode with all the compatibility options that needed to be set and it worked.  I personally hate having a little window on a large screen so I went back to the drawing board - I just removed the -w and IT STARTED.

Don't know why but it's working now.  All I did was set it to windowed then back.

hello im having the same problem u got my mouse wheel will not work in a game i have tried what u did mayb i did it wrong or dont have somthing set right

im running on Windows 7 n compadble mode WinXP sp3 i tried reinstalling it D2 and chaos but still does not work

any ideas?

i needed sp2 comaptibility of xp, after that my mousewheel worked
