Problem with 7.65 SP2
« on: February 06, 2006, 04:55:58 pm »
I downloaded Chaos Empire 7.65 SP2, and when I try to activate it, it says it needs D2_patch.ce. Anything with .ce should come with the installation, but this file is missing. I uninstalled and reinstalled Chaos Empire numerous times, though the file was still missing. Please help me! (If you could email me the answer, it would be better. My email is cta_40@hotmail.com) Thanks! Also, I am running Diablo 2 LoD v 1.10d from the download page from this site, don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Since Chaos Empire Version 7.65 it doesn´t matter which Lord of Destruction you have before installing.

This version works with all LoD Versions between 1.07 and 1.11b.

You wrote that you downloaded 7.65 SP2, this is an update to version 7.65 and you have to copy those updates over your activated 7.65.

If you don´t have version 7.65 installed, then you need only to download the actual 7.65 in the download section, there is the SP2 already included.

When your existent installation of Chaos Empire is defective through this installation try you have to deinstall Chaos Empire, delete all existing files with *.ce and *.org. Rename or delete the folder "Data" in your Diablo2 folder if exist.
Now download the Fixpack for LoD 1.10 to restore an original Blizzard LoD 1.10.

After this you can install the version 7.65 again and activate it.

If you have further problems with the installation, look at the "Installation FAQ" at my signature.

First, I downloaded the Chaos Empire 7.65 that included SP 2
Second, I downloaded the fix pack of LoD 1.10
Third, I put all the Diablo 2 files into a backup folder
Fourth, I extracted the fix pack files into the Diablo 2 directory
Fifth, I ran the program 765
Sixth, I ran Mod Activator
Seventh, error message popped up

please help!
Also, it says I cannot view the link in your sig

That won´t help, in most cases the problem is that there are too many files. In your case patch_d2.mpq, patch_d2.ce and patch_d2.org.

This is the reason why you have troubles when the installer want to rename the original file to *.org or the *.ce file to the used ones.

Quote
Installation :

- Install Diablo 2 Classic

- Upgrade to Lord of Destruction (LoD), any Patch Version from 1.07 to 1.11b

- Remember to throw any Teddys (from Chaos Empire® Versions before 7.64) and any Morph Amulets out of your inventory and / or stash before installing the new version.

- Install Chaos Empire® MOD Version 7.65

- Activate the Version 7.65
...
Troubleshooting :

- missing file xxx.ce bzw. xxx.dll
This depends on a wrong installation or upgrade of the Chaos Empire® MOD.
  Solutions:
  - Delete all files with*.ce and *.org in your Diablo 2 Folder.
  - Delete/Rename any folder called "Data" in your Diablo 2 Folder.
  - Unpack the LoD 1.10 Fixpack or the LoD 1.11 Fixpack from our Download-section.

  - Above installationsprocess beginning with point 3.

  - Otherwise you have to make a complet new installation (its wise to use a different folder on your harddrive)
Follow the above installationsprocess from its beginning.
...

I have copied the parts of the link. An other way to solve your problem is only a complete deinstall from chaosempire, d2 lod, backup of save folder and delete the complete folder tree.

I don't understand what I am supposed to do... should I delete patch_d2.mpq?
And why is it missing the file patch_d2.ce after I run 765? I've tried running 765 with no files in the diablo 2 directory, with all the files in the diablo 2 directory, and i've tried renaming all the files in the diablo 2 directory, then renaming them back to their origional names after I run 765... Why does nothing work?

You make good Haiku!

At this point the simplest solution:
Delete D2 entirely from your system.
Re-Install D2 and LOD, upgrade to 1.11b from Blizzard.
run CE 7.65SP 2 (full install huge *.exe download, not small *.zip file)
Activate, and have fun!
