Boss Monster Archer with loads of friendly friends... of course fanatiscm-aura or this AR-aura ^_^

Lava Maws! i hate them and their lakes of acid :'(

High enough resists & absorb (or resists & life-leach) make their pools of acid not too much of a problem for my Zon or last-ladder sorc...
but blocking: Yesterday I was level 60, they were level 30, 95% chance to hit, and arrows with "hit causes monster to flee 100%": the number of "hits" required to put the "Terror" graphic over them lead me to believe they have about 80% blocking. The number of actual hits to kill suggests to me they have about three times the life of other monsters in their area.
Plus they leave no body to hork/explode/raise and that makes them a real pain, especially to my (last, late) Skelliemancer who can't just run past them without losing skellies to 'evaporation' nor without getting to the next badguys with his skellies trailing *way* behind (nice sharp axe you got there, Mr Minotaur, my minions will be here in 3 seconds to argue with you about it)....

Maws are only dangerous for some characters. I can remember playing my Skelliemancer as my first HC-Char. Nightmare act4 was soooo ... i dont know, just hard. Therefore you need a party to kill them. But for most other character, they are not very dangerous in my opinion. Just never stay still, run around, throw your hands in there air and hope that your weapon kills one after the other ^_^
And i REALLY love them with my Amazone. No Evade-Skills and loads of lightning furies ^_^

Lava Maws do have a comfortable lead...
Congratulations on the "hobby", may he fascinate you for years! (they're so cute when they're asleep)
My youngest is 8, and quite skilled at picking my wallet out of my pocket. *sigh*

imho chaos thinks about revivable acids our searches graphics for them.....i don't remember, but there was something with them....

and i agrree to but there sound s of the game and it's good that the have theire own sound so i'll ever hear wich monster i fight no matter if i see them or not^^

Opinion and Guess: Lava Maws are the most annoying critter (Ärgerliches Lebewesen) beyond question. "What critter has killed us the most" is a separate question. My Opinion/Guess (Meinung/Vermutung) answer would be aura-enhanced (Aura-erhöht) champion archer packs, especially when right at the bottom of the stairs. "Annoyances" might be higher significance to us than "Fatalities" in SoftCore, but in HardCore, being killed is the most annoying annoyance there is.
(Gambling 13 pairs of Hsarus' boots when trying for Bartuc's boots might take second place)

It ran for just over a week, and got 60+ votes, of which nearly half named the same critter as Most Hated Monster.
As an analyst of things that intrigue me, (and Chaos Empire is high on that list!), I consider any critter that got fewer votes than "kill them all, let Chaos sort them out" to be within proper game balance. Critters that got more votes than "kill them all" appear imbalanced to the community. Lava Maws are apparently an extreme example of an imbalanced monster.
What, then, should we recommend to our Clan Patriarch, Chaos Energy, regarding Lava Maws?
My inputs:
1: Lava Maw spit should lose intensity or duration or both; Lava Maws should lose high blocking or high life or both. They should leave a corpse than can be horked or raised as a skeleton. (worst possible counter-notion: Lava Maw Shamen (Lava Lords) that raise dead Lava Maws again and again and ... )
2: Areas near Stairs should not alllow that monsters spawn there. I don't have a clue how to make this modification besides putting in doors and walls around the stairs and making that area of the map "level 1".
Please post your ideas about what changes should occur in the Lava Maw.
I solicit inputs about the other top Most Hated Monsters:
Iron Maiden: I rarely run melee characters, and when I do I always choose a back-up skill using missiles or spells so Iron Maiden is never a bother to me except I have to raise my melee merc because his AI is more A than I.
Aura Enhanced Boss Archer Packs: I *always* max the skill "run like a panic-stricken cheetah" and use it around these monsters unless they're in the path to a quest, and then try to tease the minions and others away from the boss and kill them one at a time. Taunt is a skill beyond value in this, because it never gets the boss to follow you, just the minions and others enjoying the aura. Still, they do scare me quite a bit because of their range.

Maybe the lawa maws were ment as very strong monsters ?
But let Chaos say what he thinks on whether to weaken the maws or not

Although LavaMaws are "the most hated monsters" , they should not be changed... there need to be monster like them to make the game demandingly!
But in my opinion let them leave a corpse would be a usefull think :)

maybee one golem could be changed wit5h a revived acid beast, would be nice.
btw they are a part of the game. and i love em :)

btw I think there are monsters which leave a corpse, but can not be used as revives. But if they would leave a corpse, a necro could easily kill them with ce

das einzig mir halbwegs verhasste monster, sind die maws, weil die das game mörder laggy machen.
ansonsten, alles i.o.
am meissten mag ich hexen-meuten, wegen des netten xp´s^^.

die hexenmobs in lvl 12 sind lustig, gerade als Ama, nicht wahr eye? :D
was mich an den mavs nervt, ist dass ihre pützen nen netten stunlock verursachen und sie im sinners und nasty so derbst viel leben haben :(

jo dat life von denen ist in den nasty places schon krass, aber eigentlich nicht so das ding.

also so manche chars können an den dingern echt verzweifeln da unten... FA ist ein nettes mittel gegen die, aber auch das dauert halt... ne psy bekommt die recht schnell tot, ein cry barb scheint damit wiederrum probleme zu haben, was ich bisher so gesehen hab :)

ich hasse die dinger zwar auch aber is irgendwie lustich wenn man die dicken moonlords umhaut und vor den viechern wegläuft!
btw: @chaos: ich hoffe dein erster kommentar war ein witz ich weiss sowieso nich wie man auf so eine idee kommt..
theoretisch wär ich für weniger mobs , aber alle mionster mehr an die stärke der maws ran,aber interressiert jac 3eh keinen...

btw kein wuder das ein cryer die nicht platt bekommt, der hat max 42k dmg
ne psyassel 100k OHNE cast delay (nicht falsch verstehen die soll kein cd bekommen^^)

ne ich meinte nich dass alle so wie maws sein sollten, nur sollte der unterschied an life und dam nicht so groß sein
(dam is nich sooo hoch, nur halt auf fläche und auf zeit)
eben is wieder einer in kathe norm bei den viechern gerippt, war zwar nurn blöder baba trotzdem ärgerlich!
mobs sind okay, starke monsis sind okay
lava maws mobs sind nicht okay!!! (baal kammer...)
abgesehn ,dass sie eindeutig unbalanced sind mag ich die viecher wegen diablo1!!
