Title: RIP DaintyFella (93 Skelliemancer)
Post by: webwalker on May 31, 2005, 05:28:44 am
He was #14 on the Necro Hardcore ladder.
I'm proud of him reaching the advanced age of 93.
85 resists in all categories in Hell, 4K life; 13/9/13 skel/mage/revives. 11KBone Spear, 15K Bone Spirit.

Several factors contributed to his attempt to break the Viper Alter leading to his death:
1: Skellies got nerfed! (both fewer and weaker)  This compelled a greater reliance on revives and bone skills, and revives often stick in a clump when you step down stairs or teleport, leaving you without a shield wall.
2: The new Viper Temple level 2 kills my machine's responsiveness (1.2G Duron, .5G Ram, ATi tech Radeon 7000 64MB video card) Normally I get 11 FPS +/- 1; this last fight I clearly had far less than that.  This new level also results in everything charging the doorway, in effect a stair-trap with a 2 second delay before you're overwhelmed.  Not quite as bad as Stygian Dools exploding at your feet before your screen finishes loading, more like the closing scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. (2 robbers with pistols vs 50 riflemen)
3: Magic Immune Champion vipers are not only immune to most everything a Necro can do (if his weakened skellies are stuck in the clump of revives) they have crushing blow and a nasty punch.  If they have 15K (true) magic damage reduction, I have a wand to whack them with doing 2-8 physical.  *sigh*.

I conclude that restarting DaintyFella will wait on the skellies getting back some of their power so that revives are optional, absent a changed that fixes the stair/tport revive clumping bug.

Rest in Peace :(

I know what it is like to lose such high leveled characters but you can be proud of getting so far. Your doings will be remembered and will be sang in many poems and songs by dawn :)

May your next hero survive the Altar of the Vipers!

I'm not going away, I'm concluding that the Skelliemancer has been broken by the recent Nerf of the Skellie's life, so I'll try other things.

DaintyFella awaits either the restoration of the Skellie's potency (so Revives are optional) or the fixing of the RevivesStickInAClump behavior.

Amd yes I'm quite proud of DaintyFella reaching the advanced age of 93... that is The Highest I have *ever* gotten a D2 character.

(my previous experience with glide was bad, that was on the previous graphics card... I'll see if it's much/some/not better with this new cheap thing I got.)

When I hear that the Skellie has been de-nerfed, yes!

DaintyFella was *fun* until the nerf hit.  From that point on it was continual crisis management, budgeting corpses for skellies, mages, revives, and explosions (usually none left over for horking), trying to herd my crew into and out of battles so they were not overwhelmed, etc.  When DaintyFella died it was a relief.  I was (and am) Proud of the accomplishment, but relieved that the perpetual cliff-hanger was over.

I've been asked about using a CtA to boost skellie life.  2 things: that means switching away from my skellie-raising wand & shield, costing at least 3 skeletons instant loss.  So instead of 13/8/13 I'll have about 11/7/10.  A tougher crowd to be sure.  A distinctly smaller crowd, and I didn't like that notion.  2:  Any class utterly dependent on one particular item or rune word is crippled; I desired to establish (for myself if nobody else cares) whether the skellie nerf was on target, too hard, or whether the nerf could go farther.  My experience and conclusion: the nerf was too hard, the skelliemancer is atm a crippled build because of it.

I am currently raising TwangThud, a strafe-a-zon (with LF for immunes), and her noble brother IronHat, the Fana-Zeal-Conv-Veng-a-din (with smite and throws weapons to deal with IM).  Alongside them is TryElementalist, a sorc, and NoMeVieron, a BFtrapassin.

I haven't found a build of Druid that I like, nor Barb.  I think I'm just not good enough on the mouse-control to melee well.  If Zeal didn't (largely) auto-target, I probably couldn't manage a Pally at all.

I'll never use a fire-rogue again.  The Immolation Arrow she uses in hell is not named "Lag Arrow" for nothin'.  Also I can't see a darned thing through it.  Considering how small the slash-burn damage is relative to monster life in Hell, I'd rather she used Guided Arrow in Hell.  She, of course, gets her opinions about what to use from somebody other than me^^.

Top of the ladder to you!  Happy hunting! De Nerf the Skellie!

Fact is, that nearly every char is more or less dependent on bo in ce.
U live really easier with bo and I think nearly everybody uses it.

Lem

Although I tried to understand, my grasp of German is too primative.
Can you try to post this in your best attempt at English?  I'll probably undertand better...

I try: he thinks the weakening of necros seems to be fashion now.

They are not safe in hc if u go down stairs, and are standing alone then because all the minions are standing at one place and u get all the hits. Since the necro has quite few hps this is porblematic

Nec = slow but safe No ! slow but not safe, thats it.

btw I do not think the necro is very slow. but the only really effective skill is ce. Any other necro attack is in comparison quite weak
