Chaos Empire D2 + LOD Mod

I run windows XP Pro, SP3, D2 LOD ran well, till after the last Windows updates.
Received error 22, DirectX problems.
Tried to reinstall DirectX 7a from CD disk and Windows kept blocking the install.
Tried to reinstall drivers for the Video card, ATI Rage, xpert 2000 Pro Ultra 32m AGP, the install was blocked.
Driver setup suggested I set video to VGA and try again. Still no good.
Uninstalled Windows SP 3 and did the above.
Tried to reinstall D2 LOD with problems continuing, can not pass the video test.
Help please.

did you tried to install latest directX 9?
as i remember 10+11 are not available for xp
in vidtest you should also be able to choose 3dfx (which is used by the glidewrapper to use open gl, works fine with an ati)

yes I try to load directx 9c.
Reinstalled Diablo II & error, "unable to load FT_THUNK (Kernel32.dll)."
I will continue to try & install LOD, then try to use a reserve copy of CE using glidewrapper.
