Title: Lost in 7.68
Post by: tathra464 on May 06, 2008, 03:45:16 am
I recently upgrtaded from 7.66 SP2 to 7.68,

Started a new person, and away i went. All OK till ACT 5 when i completed Baal, i went to look for The Seven, couldn't find so checked the readme in the patch update, and it states at 7.66 SP3 "- Removed Seven, cause of crash"

OK, I'll bite,  so what do i do now ? Just forget teh "Fought the seven task and continue on ?

Also i noticed when i re-stated a game with my new "adept Sourceress" and poped into act one "Peice of Cake Level" i can see the Portal on the map,  but can't actually use it ? i.e when i attmept to stand on it nothing happens. Is this a new "Feature" to 7.68 ?

Regards
Greg

By 'portal' you mean the waypoint, I guess. Look into the building... The WP graphics haven't been changed yet, thus it's still showing at the previous location.

I had actually pulled 7.66 sp3 recently (thought it was the most current version at the time).  I'm now thinking of upgrading to 7.68, but I'm wondering if I need to do anything specific to my characters before making the transition.  Any input on the subject?  Thanks in advance.

best you do a backup of the ce folder below your save folder in d2

but i dont remember a change that can corrupt your character..but having a backup is always a good idea...

Ok, I'll back my saves up before an update.  I wonder, though, was 7.66 sp3 to include the seven drop from snapchip shatter, or do you get that item elsewhere in that release?  I have killed him a couple of times after killing baal, and he hasn't dropped it for me yet.

If he does not drop it, you will get it from 'envy'(?), a uniq black knight, at 'seven', a side lvl you can reach out of harrogath, right to the wp. There is an entrance in a small hut.
But be warned, it is very dangerous there. Small lvl with many strong enemies.

PS: I do not know, if chimera is still there in that version!!!

Thanks, found the entrance to seven...  Didn't have too much trouble in there, but then there's the maze...  And Tristram after...  That chimera was TOUGH.  But the moo-moo farm was a nice reward afterwards.  Unfortunately, I spoke to Akara while in Trist, and as a result I could not pick up the item dropped by treehead.  I'll just chalk it up to a learning experience.

Cripes, now you can't speak to Akera while in tristram. This is getting really hard to navigate this game, with all the undocumented things. you can't do to complete quests. Is there a tome of knowledge somewhere, that tells us what we cannot do, to complete the quests, as i for one can't waste several years trying to work out what strange requirements are needed ?

Just ask one of the more experienced players to help you with cain. And you can talk to Akara, just dont let cain out of his cage until you have the other 4 words that drop in the caves or the cowlvl.

Yeah, that's what I did wrong.  I saw Cain chilling in his cage there and thought to myself, "Woohoo!  No more identification costs!".  The joke was on me, it would seem.  Then I stopped by Akara for a heal inbetween stints with the Chimera, and...  Yep, the rest was history.  Not the end of the world, though.  Like I said, a learning experience.
