Title: Security hole in Windows XP & 2000
Post by: bdpf on September 25, 2006, 09:59:31 am
This security hole is meantioned on digg.com and the radio. You are at risk even if all your patches are up todate.
You can be infected by e-mail from a friend or spam site.

Simple fix till Micro$soft issues a patch is to go to GRC.COM, wait 20 to 30 seconds for page to relaod.

Read the artical, cut & paste to "run", after you click on the "start" button and click on ok.
You should get notice that the DLL is unregistered, etc, It takes less than 2 minutes. So do it!

RESTART THE COMUPTER.. Then you will be save till the patch comes out. (next mounth 10 Oct, or when ever.)

Just read the artical it's simple and keeps the computer from being infected.

Remember you need to use;
1. A good firewall.  Zonealarm Free
2. An antivirus program.  AVG Free
3. Anti add ware program or three.  Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot Search & Destroy and Spyware Blaster. All Free.
4. Keep your patches up todate.

All these programs are free and they work good, but don't have all the bells & whistels of the paid versions.

Protect your computer so you don't infect someones elses computer.

Joe / Hans

It is not a dll from a vender, the dll is from Microsoft, in windows and is all ready installed on your computer.

The line of code disables the dll, till the patch comes out from Microsoft.
With the dll disabled, the security hole can not be exploted by spammers or adware with trojans, etc. This hole is critical........

Did you go to GRC.com and wait for the page to reload??

Or look on digg.com or slashdot.com

The security hole is posted there too.

I know I'm not the brightest light baulb ever but check it out. The radio source came on in the middle of the night just to bring the security hole problem to the listeners attention, instead of waiting till Wesday night. Broke into his wedding trip to do it. I would not of heard it except I listen to the radio as I play CE on-line. The Wensday program is normally a computer repair and suport program, targeted at people with computer problems of all kinds, PC & Mac.
I do trust the source as I've listened to the program for years.

Just like I trust the programs I meantioned. They seem to keep my computer clean and free of junk....
