Have just done a fresh install of D2 and upgraded to the new 765 version.All went fine,deleted teddys and stuff that needed to be done.Single player works just fine.
The problem i have is that when i go into open multi,i cannot join a game nor can i host a game it just times out everytime!!!
Please help!!

you mean open bnet?
if so, are you connected to chaos core community server?
next step..is correct port forwared in your firewall? 7601

No just trying to do a tcp/ip game...

Its definately not a connection problem between my 2 computers as im transfering data between the two just fine still,when ive gone to join a hosted game on my wifes computer it gets as far as after putting in the ip i get to where you pick which character you wish to join the game.After that it goes to the load screen and times out from there,also says failed to join game even when i host??

One more thing, i had this problem today before i done a fresh install and upgraded to the new version,I thought that would fix the problem but it hasnt.
Had been a while since i played.
Only played multi in open tcp/ip before mostly than any other way

i know that there are sometimes issues in local tcpip connections, cause of timeouts and so on, cause the huge amount of additional data in ce, decreases startup time for a game..
i manged this, only by opening games from the other computer..

Managed to join a hosted game but seems to be spasmodic,still cant host a game though,just seems strange chaos that i never had this problem before.
Maybe a format might resolve these issues :)

Check your cable connections and clean the dust out of your computers. Reseat your memory and expansion cards, before you do a format. It would not hurt to defrage ytour hard drives too.
Heat and vibration does strang and wonderous things to computers.

Formatted my computer last night and that has fixed the problem.
