I just did an experiment. I ran normal difficulty hellforge 50 times with a test character (level 96 amazon). I achieved the following results:
1 amazon (2%)
5 barbarian (10%)
8 paladin (16%)
4 speaker (8%)
4 warcraft II client (8%)
3 starcraft client (6%)
2 diablo I warrior (4%)
5 blood golem (10%)
3 clay golem (6%)
7 spirit wolf (14%)
8 andariel (16%)
Based on the repeats of dolls I would gather that other dolls are either very rare from normal/piece of cake hellforge or must be obtained at other difficulty levels or with other characters. It looks like we cannot rush characters to the forge over and over until we get any doll we want. The dolls that dropped tended to grant the lower level teddy skills. If someone has had a different experience with normal/cake level hellforge dolls, please post it.
I also noted that the quest reward also always included two eggs, one eggshell (either upper or lower), and either one elixer (no Ogden or Farnham) or oil (blacksmith, permanence, or skill).
I am considering testing the nightmare/let's rock forge, but that will take much longer. I can't just run by things in nightmare/let's rock and absorb all of the hits.

it is that way like in lod
runes have been replaced also gems...

If you build an -act5 necro to run NM/LetsRock, and max poison dagger/explosion/nova (90 points), your poison nova damage will kill anything not poison immune in too short a time to worry. For things that are poison immune, skill points into bone armor and bone spirit, while not synergized, will still give you endurance against the few that will survive the poison. (those that are immune to poison, magic, and physical are so few that you can out run them and by the bone armor ignore them.)
Very little gear need be gambled to build this character... humility armor for your merc will give you resists, enigma armor for yourself will give you another method for ignoring PoI/MI/PyI that are too fast to out-run (not even a barb can outrun teleport). A blood hat, belt and shield will give you skills and damage resistance. NM/LetsRock is then easy.
Rushing Hell/CGS is another matter. Waiting to hear from you!

OK guys I'm old and dummb,,,
HOW DO YOU KEEP DOING THE SAME QUEST OVER AGAIN WITH THE SAME CHARACTER? ???

In single player one can simply back up the save files and restore them after each run. Of course doing this to collect endless quest rewards would be cheating. I'm just looking to learn.

Go to the 'save' directory, and make your character's files 'read only'. Then you can do the quest, see the drops, and not be 'credited' for the quest.
You also don't get exp, and nothing you add to your character's inventory will remain after you save&exit.
What Steve is doing isn't 'cheating' in any classical sense, its research.
In this way you can put the new hellforge dolls in the shared stash (which is read-write like usual); the dolls you put there remain. When you have one of each you can make the shared stash read-only, make your characters' files read-write, then experiment adding dolls or doll sequences, record the result, and report.
