Title: Cow King Maze
Post by: Darkkatgirl on March 16, 2006, 02:19:00 am
Ok whats the trick to this level.  I know there is some trick to getting to the king without having to spend 4 hours wandering.  Anyone know what it is or an easier way to do the level?

Just found the king too, took 4 1/2 hours :(

I thought that map would be fun but its way too long.

If anyone knows the trick to reading the path to the king or knows the way pls let me know hehe.

if you go through the portal into the level, pick one wall and follow that wall

you will get to the king eventually, although it may take a long time

i tried the maze today, after 40 minutes i got kicked out of the game, but i guess it wouldn't have taken much longer than 1.5 hours to find the king with that method

thats actually what i did.  I hugged one wall and followed it till i eventually found him.  But there has to be some way to find him other than that.  Maybe something to do with the rocks/chests that are in the level.  Theres always an easier way ^.^

actually the easiest way to find him is follow the wall

if you are lucky you can just run in any direction and find him on first try, but that's really not an easier way :)

so if you don't have a map you really don't have another choice of finding him without the risk to get totally lost

Does the level stay the same?  If it does Ill make a map to him for everyone :)

if the level would be always the same i am damn sure somebody had drawn a map right away :)

but unfortunately it's not, or at least the portal and the king change their positions

nobody started drawing a map..i suggested this many times..but no one did...

and any map will be helpfull...

but i remember..during tests someone running with luck was quicker than me with map...but i was surely quicker than people running with one hand on one wall side...

@Darkcatgirl

Just remember the old maze solving adage.

I.F.T.R.W.O.T.R.

My paly is an old maze solver.

"I Follow The Righthand Wall Of The Rightous."

Of coarse he is a goody two shoe.

I have started a map, but did not complete it.  I got lucky and wandered within sight of the Cow King within the first 1/2 hour.  5 or 6 hours later I finally got to him.  Making a map takes a lot of time.  Killing the level 60 monsters along the way with a level 93 Amazon took no time.

It appears that there are two possible starting points, one near the top left border and one near the top right border.  There are multiple Cow King locations as well.  I restarted the game until I got my original starting location and followed my map once.  The map was accurate, but the Cow King location had changed.  Should I complete the map (I'm in no hurry), I could convert it to electronic format and post it.  However, since Chaos has the map, I'd figure he'd give it to us if he wanted people to have it without working for it -- so I won't post it unless Chaos says I should.

Following a right-hand rule or left-hand rule may not always work.  Consider for example starting on a section of wall that does not connect anywhere to the walls that lead to the Cow King.  You could find yourself walking in circles around a 10' long free-standing section of wall.  I haven't noticed any disjoint sections of wall yet though.

yes, because people can log all there "sightings" of the king and people can just go wandering to those locations if the map stays static.  That level would be so much more fun if it wasnt that big!

Would have been cool if there were clues as to where to go to get to the king, like follow a type of monster, marking on wall or if you take the path with small chests it leads to him (eventually).

Still a great mod tho ^.^

I must agree.  For the fourth time I start the maze, for the third time I quit (one time Windows crashed so there went my portal).

It is too big for the time I have to play, being so big makes it too tedious to appreciate.

I think Joe never plays skelliemancers...

Still a great mod tho ^.^
With that I agree.  Except for the maze.  Make this a "pseudo-real fantasy setting" and what we will do is open the "way", then set fire to the walls, then go back to camp for the night.  I go wash the dishes.  Much more fun than the maze.

So once you fail in getting to the king how can make the portal to run through it again?

You can get a new "Use this to open the way to hell" from Damien in the Swampy Pit near WP Flayer Jungle in Akt3, but beware he is a relative strong enemy. :)

Yes you can re-do the maze as many times as you please.  You cannot redo the quest starting with getting the "special words" from tristram and below.
