Title: I think I trade-hacked myself...
Post by: webwalker on December 19, 2005, 05:02:12 am
I tried a few armors on my merc. Dropping one on her which picks up the other she was wearing.
There was a spot of lag while I did this, and the level-3 rare leather was gone, in its place was a copy of the breastplate with 3 flawed rubies.
I had just dropped the leather back on her so I should have a breastplate in 'hand', and indeed I did!  Two breastplates, identical in every way, no leather armor.  I thought I'd duped!  A few mintes later, I did one more trade to see what would happen, and I had the leather armor back in 'hand'.

Conclusion, I hadn't duped, but I'd confused the server/client what display to show.  Has anybody else seen this?

(My rogue was glad to get her breastplate back, it is so much better than the leather, so she won't report me for duping or scamming).

No dupe, I didn't really try to dupe, I was afraid I had.

Solution would be to require to take things off beforep utting on a replacement (no drop-swap) but that's probably coding.

e.g. we can't put anything into a socket in any gear on a merc while it's on the merc, "I can't use that" and a red background.  If it was always this way for making rune words, sticking gems in, or changing armor, then this image-doubling would be impossible.  However, it's very useful to me to be able to swap armor with the merc (she wears Humility, I wear bartuc's, and I swap long enough to do BC/BC/BO/Shout then swap back and find a new fight) so I'm not sure the proper cure (if there's a problem needing a cure) is to break the ability totally.

Plus it's probably burind in the assembly code somewhere (where neither the sun shines, nor brave men venture!)
