I need some help :(
Up until now I have only played single player and am now looking at playing group, however when I try to login to my account I get "Unable to connect. check your modem" since I am writing here at the same time, I'm fairly certain my internet connection is working fine ;)
I have tried fresh install's, different versions on the patch on fresh installs, all play fine in single player but fall over when I try to play multiplayer. I have tried with different versions since 7.50 but never had any luck (always assumed it was due to the weird set-up I had with LOD 1.11 in one directory and LOD 1.10 with CE in another directory), but I did a fresh install and only patched to 1.10 then installed CE.
Any suggestions?

I think there is a port issue about this... drow-elf knows more about computers than I do.... also if you want to play online you need to make a "People" profile and then follow all the instructions for getting a CCC account set up.

I recently just rebuilt my Win98SE system, including a re-install of D2, LOD, and CE 7.66. Everything "just worked". My firewall is in the router, so the port question did not change with this rebuild. I had no trouble connecting. What's your OS, and your firewall?
(while on this system-related subject, how do I make DirectX always not use hardware acceleration for sound? I know how to change it once, and that will stay until reboot, I want to know how to make the default sound acceleration level "basic" rather than anything higher).

Ok, OS is Xp service pack 2, connect via cable through a hub/router (realised I should have added this information after I left for work)
Does CE use an unusual port set-up? I have had only one problem with ports and that was with the WoW file sharing program.
And to Kat, I've made the People profile (well I think I have) either that or I've made to logon accounts ;)
Either way I'm not even getting to the point to check
