Title: Suggestions for a 2 player team
Post by: evilspork on November 09, 2008, 03:02:36 am
My friend and i are thinking about giving CE another play. he played very briefly years ago, and i played a bit years ago as well. wayyyyy back then i plays a bow zon.
now after several updates and lots of changes, we want to play again as a team of two.
so my/our question is, what characters would make a fun and good team to play?
traditionally he enjoys amazons, and usually plays ranger type characters. he was considering a javelin zon for our run here.
i am kind of split and usually play casters or in your face fighters. when i played bnet LOD i loved the paladin. i saw someone say that FoH paladins are good so i was going to run with that idea.

with out character choice ideas, i am concerned we will be pretty fragile without a tank with lots of life leech and defense...

any ideas to help us have fun when we get started?

Well FoH Pala and Java are both good chars but they both use lightning. If you want to play as team all the time, i think it would be useful to cover as many sorts of damage as possible. There are many monsters in Hell who go p to 4 Immunities so there more sorts of damage you cover the better is is.

I'll list some chars here, which are playable in 7.69 (if you want to play the old 7.16, it was installed seperatly on the servers a few days ago, but i dont know what was good at that time^^)

BowBarbarian (gets multishot from the LR cain reward) does lots of physical damage and magic damage through magical arrow or berserk in lot 2
FoH Pala does lightning damage on the monster you hit and magic damage on every other monster on the screen (not just the undead)
Lightning Fury Sorc does Lightning, Fire and Pysical damage (Joe wants to cut the enchant damage someday but it still works now) lighting fury comesfrom a helm called Drunken Fury
Poison Necro does Poison damage and a bit Fire through up to 7 golems (also provides good cover)
Hurricain Dudu does cold dam and physical dam through melee (hurricain covers a larger area in 7.69) also armageddon is possible to add some fire damage
Auradin Pala uses Fire and lightning auras to kill everything in sight (1 slot fire 1 slot lightning)
Trap Assa does lightning or fire damage (also possible to add wirlwind or Psy skills for even more damage sorts)
Java does lightning and physical damage (no fire like the soso but more dam of the other 2 sorts)
Bow Ama does physical and cold or fire dam (or both, you never know^^)
Frozen orb and chain lightning sorc does cold and lightning damage (there is one lvl 100 in HC so it should be playable)

that are the char build that work fine on 7.69, of course you can try everything else too, but i guess starting with one of those is the best idea

we ended up using a FOH paladin and a golem/poison nova necro. the combo works out great with lower resist and conviction.. we are having a really easy time of things actually.

we are however having an issue of not having a real tank as we're both casters... so we were thinking of making 1 or 2 new characters for fun.

if we make new chars each and get them to about the same level as our current we could have some fun combos.

but! we need a good tank char, and another run char to play. the standard zealot and ww barb just... sound boring.. we need ideas for a good tank and a fun char to play now!

Add '-act5' to the DII command line. Then create a new Char ingame.

well necro with golems is a tank char^^ and well the FoH palas i know are also almost impossile to kill with their awsome defence.

or a rabies druid would be another tank char or a zeallot with wearbear.

A summoner Necro (skelliemancer) is a tank batallion.
A strafe-a-zon with a Fanaticism bow is a great compliment.

hmm thats not what i wanted to hear.. my friend is starting a spear zon...
i guess due to the mass number of enemies it will be hard having no shield..

i was actually thinking about making a lightning fury sorc lol

well spear zone also works with javlins, a bit less damage, but you have a shield. (The Amazonespearmastery works for Javlins in Melee too, the normal Spear mastery too)

amazonspearmastery works on javalins too?! thats great!
i guess he can be a melee zon, rather than purely a spear zon. javs and spears depending on the situation i guess!

any character build that is more fun to play than a lightning fury sorc? lol

Play what YOU like, and you will have fun.

Everyone has other 'interests', so if we say, play this and that, it is only a subjective advice. You have to find your own 'fun char'.

exactly. im looking for character builds that work well, and eventually something will look fun for me and i will choose that.
a foh paladin in PvE sounded really interesting, and so far i love the character, so im waiting for someone to suggest a character that sounds equally neat. :)
so far the advice and suggestions have been great, im just looking for more ideas still before i choose the best one

do the recipes like the one below depend on character level?
if im level 82 and want to upgrade a magic vortex shield i have to a set vortex shield, do i have to be much higher than the item level of the set item to be able to make it?
same question applies for the unique upgrade recipe.

- Any Shield
- Doll
- Jewel (rare,5x)
Generates new item with: (Set Item)

You can craft them with a level 1 character, if you rise the itemlevel before cubing.
item + potion (heal or mana) -> new itemlevel = old itemlevel + characterlevel
The upgrading recipe with moderator doll will not change the itemlevel!

so if i find a vortex shield, cube it with a potion with a high level char it will give it item level 99, then i can use the "upgrade item to set item" recipe and get the set vortex shield i oh so dearly want?

Like I wrote before you can do it with a level 1 character too, because the itemlevel rises everytime you cube the item with a potion.

well 95 all resi is very helpful in cgs and 75 all resi is a must have.
you should also keep an eye on your magic resistance, there aren't many enemies who use magic, but maws are trouble if you dont have any.

thats a very good point. right now my resists are around 75 or so in CGS, magic resist is only 12% though...

not sure where to get more... im collecting drinks to try to trade for an uber ammy, and also working toward getting a good shadowtrick. my gloves and boots are still kind of crappy though.. not sure what to do there...

well there aren't many items with magic resistance. Putting some um runes in the equipment is one of the best ways to get the resistance up (7% in normal armor parts, 11%+5%max resistance in shields)

an other way is the axe "beholder" it has 60-80% to all resistances and 75% to magic resistance, which gives you max magic resistance in only 1 item (also 5 possible sox for facetts, but no skills)

cheap gloves would be the gloves of the warlock set (2 skills 150-200 def)
