Portal in Sinners Cavern

I've just got the black key from Ancient Diablo in the sinners Cavern of level 16 Dungeon in 7.60e nm level.  There is a big shinny portal there which did nothing when I tried to enter it.  What is it for?

btw just using the search button would have worked too we answered this question a million times...

black key + tome of tp + wirts leg = cow portal.  thats what its for.  it also gives +10 to all skills for 5 mins if you use it

He wanted to know the function of the Red Portal in Sinners Cavern, not of the key.
