cant play CE v7.55

hiya...

i downloaded CE v7.55 yesterday (at work), then when i finally got home (was very excited to install and play), i installed CE (onto d2lod v1.10), followed instructions to the T, then activated, and clicked on the shortcut to play CE in English mode.

the only activity i got from my pc was the cd that spinned non-stop. even restarting didnt stop the cd from spinning. 

i deactivated CE, clicked on d2lod shortcut and played normal diablo.  i exited.  i clicked on the ce shortcut, still went into the normal diablo.

i first deactivated CE, then uninstalled CE, restarted just for kicks, and installed CE again.  still nothing after activation.

i even checked the folder for changes when activating and deactivating, dont see much besides renaming of files.

i also checked the forum to see if anyone else had this problem, i found this one: http://chaosempire.info/forum/index.php/topic,5581.0.html

in it, drow-elf posted a link to 756upd.zip - but the link doesnt work. 

i dont know what to do anymore - its a first time install for me with CE, so i didnt upgrade or anything of the like.  i would really really like to play the game.

pls can someone help me?

Now you have to install the newer update to CE 7.57. You can find it under download here at the forum.

Activate the mod and then copy these update in your diablo2 folder (and extract it).

ok - thanks - i'll give it a try when i get home this afternoon, then i'll give feedback in the morning again (its now only 8:45am) :S  still such a long time before the end of this day :(

Am I wrong in thinking that the 7.55 version should work, at least in SP mode?  I have one machine running 7.55 and one running 7.57 and we play fine in tcp/ip games or in SP.

The version 7.57 is mainly for sp and works on realm too.

There were some problems with the plugy version and that can crash your shared and extended stash in singleplayer.

All singleplayer should update to version 7.57.

I did that, thats when I started getting the "bad header" and" bad genric file" warnnings when trying to start a game.  Or when joining a tcp/ip game  the machine that started the game would get kicked out with a "unhandled ecception" warnning.  When went bact to 7.55 on the machine that was having the problem, it cleared up.

i didnt have any luck with the 757upd.zip file.... i activated CE, then extracted the zip file's contents into my diablo II folder as instructed.

these are the error messages i got:

Warning: Corrupted File  patch_d2.mpq

Warning: One or more files have been modified, please correct changes or reinstall Chaos Empire Mod

so i deactivated - or tried to - it wouldnt do that. uninstalled CE, uninstalled D2lod.  reinstalled d2lod, then CE v7.55, then activated, then extracted the 757upd.zip file into d2lod folder.

still did not work.  gave the same errors.

please, if someone can help me here with this problem - i would appreciate it a lot.  please dont hesitate to raise your clubs and put me out of my misery :P

at this point i'm about to give up on CE... and i dont want to cause it seems like a really good mod.

as stated in some other posts

if your patch_d2.mpq is not ok...then you probably have a 755 from the first max 24hours

It has been replaced with annother 755 version after (the first one says in map view (english and german only) that it is 751 not 755

the correct one states 755

map view? whats this?  where can i see this map view? in the game?  if its in the game... well then, i cant get in there :P

anyhoo.. i downloaded the version thats on this site - hope it'll bring me better luck :D  **holds thumbs**

Yes it is in the game.. If you press Tabulator normally the map appears.

well, i wouldnt b able to see that - since i cant even get the game to start up :D

i'm hoping the CE version on this site will bring me better luck - like chaos said, there's a newer 7.55 version

thanks chaos!  your help really helped me a lot.  i'm playing now and its loads of fun!  super nice mod!

now i just got to find my stash as my inventory is full of eggs & other items (not weapons/armor). :S  and i'm going to search the forums for anything about the pvp area - whats that area for?

Like the name say the pvp area ist planed for people who want to play pvp (player versus player) don´t be disturbed by normal questing players in the same game. And also the other players don´t be disturbed, too.

There is no other function on that area.

also pvp area is there, cause it is normally not allowd to do pvp in any other area, cause to protect no pvp users from people who dont understand the difference between pvp and PK
