CE crashes to desktop frequently

MTTF unmeasured, sometimes I play hours undisturbed, sometimes 8 crashes to desktop (all traces of D2/CE gone) within one hour.

Please pass me clues what to test/check/do/report.

does D2 crash with a MessageBox or does it clothe without any msg?

to see the message, if there is one (you can see,  if there is still the d2 screen and it does not crahs directly to windows), by switching with ALT + TAB key to windows.

Additional you can install the 7.51 patch for CE.
And look if you have something changed on your machine.
New Software, Hardware.
Install the newest drivers and when you've got an Error Message, then post the text here.

I had the same problem. I solved it by deleting ChaosEmpire and LoD and reinstalling it.
I think the problem is connected with the glide wrapper. If I use the newest version CE crashed to desktop about 5 times in an hour. If i use the old glide wrapper version I don't get this crash afaik... If i don't use glide wrapper I never get this crash... A bit strange and i'll keep on testing..

p.s. I'm using Win2K SP4

All traces of D2/CE gone, no msg box, no box on the icon bar, all vanished.

It crashes directly to windows and there is no trace of the program still running.
I'm unaware whether I'm using glide wrapper (I don't under D2LOD on BNet I use direct-draw).

I'm using Win98SE, no change in hw or sw more recent than installing Chaos Empire.

I installed 7.51 last night and stopped having this problem so far, treat this bug report as closed unless I re-post.  Advise: 7.50 has a crash-to-desktop problem that 7.51 doesn't have.
