This might be silly...but how do you use oils?

I can't figure it out. I've tried using them as items and I've tried cubing them with the item I wanted to use them on, but to no effect.

You are right, you must take your item and one Oil in the cube. But you can do this cubing many times with one item.

Which oils have you tried with which item? Some oil work not with all items:

Oil of Accuracy - +1-2% Attackrating (Weapons only)
Oil of Death - +1 min Damage und +2 max Damage (Weapons only)
Oil of Fortitude - +10-50 Durability (all items)
Oil of Hardening - +1 Defense (Helm und Shield), +2 Defense (Armor)
Oil of Imperviousness - +3-5 Defense (Helm, Shield, Armor)
Oil of Mastery - +3-5% Attackrating (Weapons only)
Oil of Permanence - makes item indestructable (all items)
Oil of Sharpness - +1 max Damage (Weapons only)
Oil of Skill - Requirements (Strength/Dexterity) decreased by 6-10% (all items)
Blacksmith Oil - repairs item (all items)

Otherwise you have to check your cube. Probably there is an etheral item which you don´t see very good sometimes.

I think that might be the problem...I think I mixed up oil of fortitude with oil of hardening...that would certainly explain why nothing happened when cubing with butcher's cleaver.

Also, I read something about adding sockets to an item by cubing it with black oils (# of sockets = # of oils +1), are black oils the same thing as the normal group of oils? If so, what items can this recipe be used with?

Oh, you use an old readme.. Now it's like this, to make sockets, you have to take perfect gems. Because i'm not very good in english I'll give an example:

2 perfect gems=1socket
4perfect gems=2 sockets
6perfect gems=3 sockets
8perfect gems=4 sockets
10 perfect gems=5 sockets
12 perfect gems=6 sockets

I hope it's clear now.

Btw: The Oil of Permanence makes an item indistructible, there wasn't a translation so i thought it could be good to translate it.

I am using version 7.50.  is the socketing recipe the same as in 7.51?

yes, but 7.50 has a bug, if u want to use ur chars, and dont crash them, use 7.51

This bug is with the "Augsburger Puppenkiste", the doll stash.

Sometimes, if you put too much dolls into the doll stash, the doll stash crashed and you weren't able to use it any more. If you upgrade to 7.51, be sure that there are no more 7.50 dollstash on your chars, if there are you can't use them in 7.51.
