Failed to load library: d2client.dll

Some of my Win7 systems run D2LOD/CE just fine.
One, an HP620, ran it fine before the last updates.
Now, plugy.txt lists "failed to load library : d2client.dll" as it's last line.
Copying this file from a running system (meaning where D2LOD/CE runs fine) does not change this.
Deactivating CE, then re-exploding 767.exe, re-activating the mod, and re-exploding 7.72upd.zip do not change this.

Compatability mode is WinXPsp3, run as administrator.  Changing video mode does not affect this.

Ideas please what to do?

maybe it would help if re-register the dll with regsrv32.exe
