I tried running D2 again a few minutes ago. First, I got critical errors at the Direct X part. (I'm using 9.0C.) So I ran the video test. Somehow, it couldn't find DX 9.0C, despite running the test four times. The first three times, it found GL Glide only, which was hardly any help. The fourth time, it didn't find ANY video modes! Let's see, I've been playing either WoW or SWG for about nine hours today, yeah, there's a video mode there.

Any ideas on what the heck's going on? The fourth time, I even did a full reboot of my computer.

If you don't get answers quickly on this one, it's because it's not a common kind of error.  I've never run into it and don't recall hearing of it.

Obvious things to try is re-installing some things: DirectX and video card drivers for two.  I've done this in the past to clean up problems with D2 graphics behavior, which were (I believe) just errors in the registry, meaning all program and data files were in the proper place, but the registry wasn't pointing to the right things until video card drivers were re-installed.

...sympathies for things that don't work when they still should... like my back sometimes...

did you tried reinstalling direct x?

Just did that to both the video card driver and DX (thanks for the tips ), but it's still not working...

This thought took a while to percolate, but you might have over-heat problems.  Time to take the vacuum to the dust-bunnies?
