Lag spikes while playing single player

I just installed the latest CE mod and Im getting lag spikes while playing. I tried turning shadows and lighting both down to low but that doesnt help. I have a 1.4 ghz with 1 gig of ram and an nvida 9600se so I know its not my compuiters fault and I can run d2x normally without nay lag.
